Throughout my Master's program I have gained valuable experience in the area of working with at-risk students. I now have the confidence in my skills and ability to help prepare them from my courses I have taken. Helping at-risk learners stay motivated and improve their literacy skills involves much differentiation. Students need to spend a lot of time in text on their instructional level. They need support in the area of vocabulary, practice increasing fluency, and direct phonics instruction. These students need to see productive comprehension strategies modeled. Providing motivation by the use of technology and engaging activities will help them to improve and show the growth all educators strive to see.
